Pay Up For Free Speech!
February 24,
11:30 AM, US Court House, 901 Richland St. Columbia. Ironically, free speech isn't free in America, and SC Progressive
Network Director Brett Bursey is looking for 499 other
people who think its worth it to pay a dollar each toward
his $500 federal fine. Bursey was convicted of refusing to
leave an area restricted for the security of George Bush
during a presidential visit to Columbia in 2002. Four months after he refused to go the "free speech zone" with his "No
War For Oil" sign, he became the first person ever charged
by the Secret Service with refusing to leave a restricted
area. |

Build a Wall Against the War
Sunday, March 19th 2006 1:00 PM
On
the third anniversary of the start of the war against Iraq, Charleston
Peace will commemorate those who have died by writing their names on a
memorial wall to be built in Marion Square. The purpose of the wall is
to honor the dead and demand an end to the occupation.
We will be constructing a 40' long wall containing names of U.S., Iraqi, and other victims of the Iraq war. Lists of names will be available and participants will be asked to write them out and place them on the wall.
In Marion Square, corner of King St. and Calhoun St., Sunday, March 19, 1-4 PM.

We're spreading plastic army men around the country and around the globe as small, everyday reminders of the ongoing horrors of the war in Iraq and to serve as tools to foster dialogue, action and resistance to the war. Here in the United States we're encouraged to forget about the war, to go on with our lives, to "go shopping." But what if everywhere people went there were little plastic Army Men nudging them to remember that we're waging war? At Home Depot, on the gas pump, in the 7-11, at the post office, on the hood of the car, in the public restroom, at the movie theatre, in the produce section of the grocery store ...in your neighborhood ...? Join the Army Men Project - spread the plastic everywhere! Charleston Drinking Liberally has teamed up with Charleston Peace for the Army Men Project. Visit their website to see more about the actions they have planned for the week of March 13-17. |
