'I Will Not Kill' Campaign
Written by Sue Edward
Sunday, 01 February 2009

Conscientious Objection — It Takes Courage!

According to the law, a conscientious objector is a person who objects to participation in all forms of war and whose belief is based on an ethical, moral, or religious belief system.

To be a CO, you do not have to be a pacifist or believe in God. You also do not have to oppose the use of violence in personal self-defense.  BUT you must oppose participating in ALL wars.

The "I Will Not Kill” campaign affirms the right of conscientious objection and opposes any future draft.  The “I Will Not Kill” campaign aims to:

    · affirm the right of conscientious objection and support the right of people to have a choice whether or not to serve

  · oppose a future draft

  · encourage those who are targeted by recruiters to check out the reality of the military

  · raise awareness of resistance to war and share the ideas with other youth

  · educate high school and college age youth about the impacts of and alternatives to war

  · dismantle the selective service system and promote a culture of life

PLEASE LET EVERY TEEN KNOW that the Fellowship for Reconciliation has instituted a program whereby youth can sign a pledge not to kill; the pledge will be kept in FOR files should the signee ever need proof of intention. This is open to all, regardless of religious affiliation OR no religious affiliation.  This is for youth who may wish to have a record of intent on file with an external organization other than their home meeting or church.  For more info see:

ShministimRefuseBW130.jpg

The shministim are our lamedvavniks-our voice of conscience, our tiny flickering hope of building a society that does not willingly participate in controlling, terrorizing, and killing the Palestinian people-enforcing the checkpoints, demolishing homes, destroying ancient olive groves, building the Wall, confiscating land, enforcing siege and all the other immoral and illegal actions of the occupation.

Military Recruitment Intimidation Is Illegal
Written by Kristen French, Ph.D.
Friday, 15 August 2008

Have you been threatened or intimidated by armed services recruiters?  If so, please be assured that this is not sanctioned military policy and is in fact illegal in most cases.  If you feel that you have been harassed in any way, contact the Commander at your local recruitment office to report the incident.  In addition, visit the GI Rights website for more information on this topic.

There are recent reports of illegal intimidation by recruiters after young people signed up for the Delayed Enlistment Program (DEP) and later changed their minds.  It is completely legal to change your mind and withdraw from the DEP (see GiRights).  Amy Goodman of Democracy Now! has written about specific examples of illegal intimidation in her weekly column recently ("Threats, Lies and Audiotape"), and Rep. Gene Green of Texas has asked the Pentagon to explain why a specific recruiter was promoted after being found guilty of illegal intimidation (full story).
