Ironically, free speech isn't free in America, and SC Progressive Network Director Brett Bursey is looking for 499 other people who think its worth it to pay a dollar each toward his $500 federal fine. Bursey was convicted of refusing to leave an area restricted for the security of George Bush during a presidential visit to Columbia in 2002. Four months after he refused to go the "free speech zone" with his "No War For Oil" sign, he became the first person ever charged by the Secret Service with refusing to leave a restricted area.

Ironically, free speech isn't free in America, and SC Progressive
Network Director Brett Bursey is looking for 499 other people who think
its worth it to pay a dollar each toward his $500 federal fine. Bursey
was convicted of refusing to leave an area restricted for the security
of George Bush during a presidential visit to Columbia in 2002. Four
months after he refused to go the "free speech zone" with his "No War
For Oil" sign, he became the first person ever charged by the Secret
Service with refusing to leave a restricted area. He was convicted,
without a jury trial, and the Supreme Court in January refused to hear
his appeal. The new Patriot Act would make Bursey's crime a felony,
carrying a year in prison.

If you think Bursey's conviction and its implications threaten
Americans' Free Speech rights, pay a dollar toward his $500 fine. Come
to the Federal Court House with your dollar for free speech at 11:30
AM. Bursey and his attorney, Lewis Pitts, will make a statement at
noon. For details, contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or call 803-808-3384.
