The members of USW Local 216 went on strike at Giant Cement Company in Harleyville in August 2005. One year after the end of the strike, there are still more than 70 union workers who have not been allowed to return to work in the cement plant. Each year Giant Cement burns more than 100,000 tons of hazardous waste in the community, and the company has repeatedly been fined by state regulators for violating environmental laws. Please join USW Local 216 in demanding good jobs and a safe community. Directions: The rally is being held at "The Hut," the union hall of USW Local 216, at 504 Seven Mile Road in Harleyville. From I-26, take Exit 177 (Route 453 East) towards Holly Hill. Go over the bridge and turn right on Seven Mile Rd. The Hut is across the road from the cement plant.
