Closing the SOA/WHINSEC: New Legislative Resource
Your Senators and Representative represent YOU and your views in Congress in Washington D.C.
and they should be accountable for each and every one of the votes they
cast. In 2008, the office of the President of the United States and
seats in the Senate and House of Representatives are up for grabs! Volunteer with the Legislative Working Group!
At this year's Vigil, the Legislative Working Group will embark on a
mini legislative campaign to reach out the thousands of activists who
will gather at the gates of Fort Benning.
Over 200 thank you cards will be filled with signatures to be given to
the members of the House of Representatives who voted YES in June 2007
to prohibit funding for the school. Thousand of postcards to potential
cosponsors of HR 1707 will be filled out at the Vigil site to flood the
mailboxes of Congressional offices. Help Build Momentum for HR 1707 and Secure Another Vote in Congress HR 1707, Rep. McGovern's legislation to suspend operations at the SOA/ WHINSEC and investigate atrocities linked to the school, has 117 bipartisan cosponsors! Help us reach the magic number to secure a vote on the bill by making sure your Representative has signed on as a cosponsor:- Check out the list of current cosponsors. Is yours not on the list?! Check out the June 2007 voting record and see if your Representative cast a YES vote. If so, even more reason to check out the Legislative Action Index for tips on contacting your Representative, setting up a meeting, and making your calls.
